Starting on June 7th, Rio de Janeiro hosts the 2018 edition of the Virada Sustentável Festival. Virada is a mobilization and awareness movement for sustainability and not to mention the largest festival on this theme in Brazil. The event is held in the capital of the state of Rio de Janeiro and it is the second of the year: the first one was held in Porto Alegre and others will take place in Manaus, Salvador and São Paulo, where the initiative originally started in 2011.
Today, the thematic design of Virada Sustentável is based on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), set by the UN in 2015. The SDG’s is an agreement signed by all UN Member States and encourages companies and citizens to meet the goal of wiping out poverty, ensuring food security for all and protecting the planet from environmental threats, among other goals, by 2030.
