When a new product is developed, a set of actions could make the journey throughout the chain more or less sustainable. An important part of these actions must happen in the design phase of the product.
In the design thinking process, we can make the production more efficient and sustainable. It is also in this phase that the product can be planned for the time it needs to be discarded – i.e., so that its parts can be reused and recycled the best way possible.
See how, with the following examples, these techniques work for Design for assembly and Design for disassembly.
