According to the UN (United Nations), 6 billion people around the world have mobile phones. Up to 83 different elements from the periodic table make up a regular smartphone - 62 of them are metals and 16 of these metals are considered rare. There is a whole industry working to develop better ways of recycling and reusing these precious materials. Around US$ 50 billion are thrown away every year through incorrect smartphone disposal.
