What is the HDI?

The Human Development Index is an indicator designed to measure development beyond the economic scope; in 2017, the global HDI ranked Norway first and the Central African Republic last

The HDI, or Human Development Index, is calculated based on three major variables: health, education and population income. Health considers life expectancy, Education measures the years of adult education and schooling expectation among children, and Income accounts for the Gross National Income per capita. The United Nations is responsible for the global HDI ranking and all information if officially provided by the countries: in 2017, the global HDI ranked Norway first and the Central African Republic last.
